A message from Pastor Vince and the Lakeside Board
Re: The President’s Proclamation on Re-Opening Churches
As many of you may have heard, President Trump announced that “houses of worship” are essential and strongly urged Governors to open churches, synagogues and Mosques immediately (effectively this weekend). We cannot agree more that churches are essential for our communities to thrive, flourish and look forward to when we can safely gather together onsite in our facilities, one another’s home and various locations where we do life and ministry together.
It is also essential that churches re-open in ways that are safe for their people and communities. You’ll recall it was in Kirkland that COVID-19 came to light with the deaths of several. Our city leadership along with the CDC and Department of Health have been working to provide us with directions and guidance. This led us to close down our facilities and suspend in-person ministry at Lakeside out of caution and care for the health and wellbeing of others. We did not make these decisions lightly but with prayer, consultation with medical professionals and a concern for not only our church family but the health of our community. We will continue to plan with a Lakeside Task Force to open our facilities in concert with the Phases set forth by our Governor in concert with CDC and Public Health Guidance.
We believe strongly in the importance of relationships, community and gathering. This is consistent with the movement of the church since it’s inception. Through the ages Christians have gathered in times of war, famine and persecution. Our day and age presents us with a challenge to gather but also with technology that can make it happen with little to no risk to the health of people. In the meantime, we (Christians) must hold fast to Biblical teaching that calls us to put the welfare of others first. In doing so we are truly being a light to the world around us.
Consider: The work of the church is essential. The work of caring for the lonely, the marginalized and oppressed is essential. The work of speaking truth to power and seeking justice is essential. The work of being a loving and life giving presence in this world is essential. The work of welcoming the stranger, the refugee – everyone is essential. The work of healing hearts, reconciliation and caring is essential. The message of Jesus’ love, redemption and restoration is essential. This is the work of the church (God’s people) and it isn’t bound up in brick and mortar – it is alive and vibrant – it’s you. Realize the church is never closed.
At Lakeside we have adapted, improvised and overcome barriers to gathering and will continue after restrictions are lifted. We don’t want a single person to be left out – please, gather in with us. We continue to look to the CDC and the Department of Public Health for guidance and will let you know when we will be safely gathering in person and on-site in Kirkland.
Until then you can do a few things…
